This time, the Swoosh commemorates the Tinker Hatfield-led design with this “Archetype” iteration featuring details seen on one of its earliest sketches. Different from other Air Max 90 releases are the exposed foam on the ankle collar while a translucent mudguard appears on the lateral side. The shoe does include the original tooling boasting a large Air Max unit at the heel and an encapsulated airbag in the forefoot. Although its 25th anniversary has culminated with a return to original “Neon Yellow” form, the Nike Air Max 95 has gradually revealed some of its plans for 2021 and beyond. A “Grain/Black/Beach/Coconut Milk” colorway reminiscent of Stussy‘s Nike Sportswear collaborations from 2020 is among the silhouette’s future propositions. Similar to the brand’s three takes on Sergio Lozano’s design in 2015, the forthcoming pair indulges in a rather tonal arrangement. While not exactly a “Fossil” palette, the sandy shades that take over the burlap, mesh and suede construction create an equally-versatile scheme.

Lace loops, branding and spines deviate from their understated surroundings in favor of stark contrast, with the most former boasting a faint green tone. Sole units underfoot don’t deviate much from the upper’s cream-colored makeup, but they don a darker shade of tan; their Air Max units opt into a variant of the aforementioned green hue. As with Stussy’s Zoom Spiridon Cage 2, outsoles round out the pair with a military garb-reminiscent color. Liverpool-based Sevenstore has released a short film celebrating the city’s “love affair” with the Nike Air Max 95, arriving to mark the return of the classic “Neon” colorway. Ever since the sneaker first arrived in 1995, it has become an important part of Liverpool’s culture and is still widely referred to as the 110 due to its original £110 GBP price tag.

The video itself has been created by Glenn Kitson alongside a number of Liverpool creatives. Throughout the short film, people from around the city tell their memories of the shoe and where the love affair between Liverpool and the Air Max 95 “Neon” colorway comes from. As one participant in the video says, “Once you wore them, you were a part of the texture, the fabric, of what makes the city express itself.”

“110s Love Affair” has been released to coincide with the relaunch of the “Neon” colorway in its original form. The sneaker features a classic grayscale fade across its anatomical-inspired upper. This muted design is offset by hits of the titular “Neon” around the eyelets, tongue badge and a small Swoosh towards the heel.
